Wild Splendor Eco-Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary – Alberta, Canada

As part of a project team, Equine Facility Design completed feasibility and planning for an equestrian show facility to be developed as part of an ecological resort, community, and wildlife sanctuary on over 900 acres of land near Edmonton. Wild Splendor Ecological Resort is a multi-use project that combines the unique characteristics of the land, its history, land use classifications, and permitted and discretionary uses allowed on the lands. The development includes an urban equestrian village comprising of a variety of resort units including cabins, villas, and apartments; an equestrian show facility; a sustainable, hospitality oriented eco-resort hotel combining a variety of commercial, educational, outdoor and indoor recreational and cultural activities; a luxury spa, amphitheater, and artistic village; a Rod Whitman designed twelve hole golf course, club house, and training academy; 120 unit motor coach park; and various open spaces, wildlife corridors, wildlife habitats, and natural features. The equestrian facility is to provide boarding, training, clinic, and show capabilities with it’s projected 400 stalls; indoor arenas; support spaces; outdoor arenas; eventing course, driving for horse drawn carriages, cutters, and sleighs; and 17 miles of riding trails. Building and site design is expected to begin 2014.
